Granny Square Blanket: Part One
While, my hands are aching, and my forearms burning, I still yarn over, and think, “just one more row,” even though in reality, it is way more than that because of all the other granny squares I have to do.

While, my hands are aching, and my forearms burning, I still yarn over, and think, “just one more row,” even though in reality, it is way more than that because of all the other granny squares I have to do.
Welcome to part one of my Granny Square adventure! I just recently learned the whole concept of making granny squares, and now I have made over thirty in February, or in the past week! When I said in my last post (Clover Granny Square), “February is the month of, “Granny Squares” for me. And you will soon find out why, because I have a blog post planned for what I have been crocheting lately.” I meant this post and the ones after it (since this is part one).
So, now, I have a ton of granny squares (picture) on my bed, and that is going to be a splendid blanket. But how did it come to be? Where did it all start?
It started on Monday night when I crocheted the Clover Granny Square. I decided to crochet another one with my chenille yarn, and so I made two that night. But I instantly fell in love with making granny squares, and finally found out why so many crocheters do it. I used to wonder what the big fuss was with so many crocheters making granny square bags, shirts, sweaters, cardigans, blankets, and more! But now, I totally get the obsession!
So, the next day (Tuesday), I started making more and more squares, and I used different colors—blue, yellow, orange, red…and then I thought, “this could be a cool sweater.” But by the end of the day, that idea left me because I did not want an exotic and colorful sweater. You see, I am a plain person—a girl who wears jeans and a shirt—when it’s cold: a sweater. I don’t wear a sweater with 7 different colors; that is just not me. So, out went the sweater idea, and in went the blanket.
On Tuesday, I crocheted 23 granny squares. I know, it’s insane! But trust me, though it was fun, it destroyed me. My neck really hurt, and my hands were cramping, and I felt like my thumb was about to fall off. I use plastic crochet hooks I got from Amazon for a good price (https://amzn.to/40Yep4h). And while they may be good for casual crocheting, they aren’t for endless hours of such. For that, I would recommend clover amour (https://amzn.to/410GpEi) hooks or ergonomic (https://amzn.to/3X0aKSx). I have a 4.5 ergonomic hook from the Woobles ( a learn-to-crochet kit), and I love that hook, but not for Chenille yarn because the yarn is large, and the hook is small.
Then yesterday I crocheted 8 squares, and today I crocheted 2, bringing the total up to 35! And a little while ago, I just finished weaving in the ends of 33 of them (because 2 were already done). So, now all I have to do is attach them, and that will be part two of this series, where I attach them all together, and (maybe), crochet a border.
So, yeah, that is the background of my crochet blanket. Happy crocheting!
