To start off the big series of continuous posts about 40 different patterns in CrochetByGenna’s new book, we will first discuss her no-sew dragon! Now I have this pattern from buying it from her Etsy, so I did not make it from the book—but it is the same.
The story behind me getting the pattern is simple. I had watched Genna for a while and had seen all her amazing patterns while continuously checking her Etsy, just admiring the patterns. Finally, I forced myself to buy one of her patterns…but which one? I looked through, scanning each one. The dragon fascinated me. A no-sew dragon? I could not believe it. And as his little eyes stared me down, I knew what I needed to do. I needed to buy it. So, I did. And no regrets.
I instantly fell in love with the pattern. And in the following days, I had two dragons (image): one blue, and one pink. Now on my Etsy, you can buy a personalized dragon, which I will make and of course—send to you!
But about the pattern, the pattern is so simple and easy to understand. There are pictures provided which is so helpful. Genna does not leave you scratching your head, instead she leaves you patting yourself on the back, knowing you just accomplished something great! The legs and arms are made, following the wings which have simple but beautiful detail. And then as you crochet the dragon, you crochet the parts into the body which is so genius! And speaking of the body, the spikes are simple bobbles, as well as the horns, and ears.
And we will just give the face its own paragraph because the face is just—chef’s kiss! It is lined so perfectly, with the nostrils doing increases to create a beautifully shaped face, while the ears are perfect. It is unbelievable and amazing!
Then taking a moment to reflect on the shape of the body. It is a great shape, and Genna did a great job doing the dimensions as they are. And then the tail is great. Sometimes when, decreasing as much as to get from a lot of stitches to 6 can be hard, and then there will be small holes showing where the decreases were made, but Genna does a great job not doing that, and instead mixing rounds of decreases with just single crochets creating a lengthy and clean-looking tail. All in all, this is a great pattern!
So, should you make this pattern? YES! Should you buy her book? YES! (https://amzn.to/4k6iBrt).
Thank you for reading, and stay tuned for the next pattern review about Genna’s famous axolotl!
